Anyone looking for some entertainment on a long journey home this Christmas should check out this highly addictive title from Gameloft, which mixes nice tropical-themed visuals and audio with superbly implemented controls that use the iPhone's touchscreen and accelerometer.
Each level contains an arrangement of coloured bubbles hanging from the top of the screen. Your objective is to fire bubbles from below to form chains of at least three of the same colour. It's easy to get to grips with the mechanics, but extended play will develop amore precise strategy for clearing levels within a time limit by clearing a path to burst the higher bubbles and detach the lower ones so they fall away. This is one of the most enjoyable iPhone games, but it helps that the control system is so good.
Although it's adapted from other platforms, this isn't a sloppy conversion. The controls are fluid and there's plenty of space set aside at the bottom of the screen to drag left and right to line up a shot, whichfires when your finger is lifted. The accelerometer adds an extra dimension to the gameplay, as it enables you to slide the firing platform across the screen to make tight shots easier.
Bubble Bash is one of the best budget games available on the App Store and it's arelief to discover that should you be interrupted, your progress is preserved for the next time you open the game. Anticipate that being often.
