Microsoft gets fashionable

Microsoft is going from geek to chic by launching a new clothing range. The 'Softwear' line is the company's foray into the world of fashion.
Apple has soared in popularity with its trendy image, and Microsoft is keen to lose its tag as the unfashionable PC maker, so the company is launching two collections: Classic Designs and Common's Designs. The latter is endorsed by rapper Common, who Microsoft has recruited to help the company reinvent its image.
"This is Softwear by Microsoft: A clothing line that taps the nostalgia of when PCs were just starting to change our lives," said the company.
"With retro logos, classic photos, and geek-chic iconography, these pieces showcase the DOS days of the software company that now connects over a billion people."
The collections include a variety of t-shirts, including one with the MS-DOS logo and one with a Bill Gates mugshot. Common has also presented his own designs for the collection, including a 1980s command screen that reads out the title of one of his songs "I used to love her", and another with the number 85 made up of Microsoft logos.
"Microsoft and I decided to do some T-shirts which would be reminiscent and reflect both of our movements in a unified way," said the rapper.
"1985 was probably the year for both Microsoft and myself. It's when I started to really get into hip hop and writing lyrics and it's the year that Microsoft Windows came into creation."
The corporation launched the clothing line in style too, with a party in New York city, where there was an open bar and a live performance by Common with hip hop star Biz Markie as DJ.
