Microsoft has admitted that there is a hardware problem with its Xbox 360 console. It said that a number of Xbox users have reported error that displays "E74" on their screen and has decided to cover repairs related to it under its three-year warranty programme. The company has also pledged to refund customers who have paid for repairs to fix the problem.
"After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console," Microsoft said in a statement.
It said that it has now made improvements to new consoles, which will reduce the likelihood of the problem in the future.
Customers who have paid for repairs should automatically receive a refund within four to 12 weeks, according to Microsoft. It said that no additional action by customers should be necessary. However, if a customer has not received a refund by July 1st, 2009, the customer should contact Microsoft by November 1st, 2009 for information on how to place a claim.
