Master Replicas Force FX Luke Skywalker Lightsaber review

Not so long ago, in playgrounds and bedrooms not so far away, fans had to use impromptu props when re-creating the lightsaber fight scenes from Star Wars.

Times have changed, though, and they have a new hope in the form of Master Replicas' Force FX lightsabers.

The Force FX lights up and emits the familiar hum and crackle sound effects. We tested Luke Skywalker's green lightsaber, but other colours are available. Would-be Jedi will need six AA batteries, which are not provided. A display stand is included, though. Strict warnings on the box advise against proper playfighting. Hitting someone could cause injury to them or damage to the lightsaber, so it isn't suitable for children or overenthusiastic grown-ups.

The Force FX lightsaber is great fun for Star Wars fans. But owners of recent Apple notebook computers can use the free MacSaber program to produce authentic lightsaber sound effects without spending a packet.
