ION iTTUSB USB Turntable review

Our Rating 3 stars out of 5

It's easy to create MP3 files from a CD, but more of a challenge to convert vinyl into compressed digital files.

Ion's iTTUSB turntable aims to make the process easier. It contains a preamplifier and can output a conventional phono or more powerful line-level signal. It can also connect directly to a computer via USB.

The iTTUSB is supplied with its own cartridge, which uses a standard mount. The turntable has an adjustable counterweight, so it's easy to use with third-party cartridges if you prefer. It has an anti-skate mechanism, but there's no speed trim and the platter is belt-driven rather than directly driven. Sound quality is acceptable over USB or phono connections.

Ion supplies a brief but helpful manual that covers the basics of recording, editing, saving and compressing tracks from vinyl using the supplied Audacity software. The iTTUSB works with most other audio-editing packages, but converting a single long Wav file into individual MP3 tracks is involved. Some custom software would make the job easier and more fun.
