Altec Lansing M602 review
These mains-powered iPod speakers sound better than most systems we've tried.
Music is full-bodied and detailed, with plenty of volume and surprisingly solid bass for such a compact unit. Its dock accepts third-generation and later iPods, including the Nano and Mini. It also has a clip-on podium and a line input for use with any MP3 player, although sound quality wasn't as good in this mode. The package includes a bracket for wall mounting.
We tested the speakers with a fifth-generation iPod. The player rests against the metal speaker grille when seated in the dock, and this caused the player and grille to rattle against each other at certain bass frequencies. This problem occurred rarely, and we fixed it by slipping a piece of cardboard between the player and the speakers, but this is hardly an elegant solution.
Sound quality is marginally better than that of the Logitech AudioStation, but the Logitech's FM radio and lack of design flaws mean it's a better buy.
