Apple adds Complete My Album features to iTunes
Posted on 29 Mar 2007 at 14:10
Apple has announced that singles purchases will now count as credits towards the subsequent purchase of the complete albums on which they appear through the iTunes Store.
The initiative, called Complete My Album, effectively unlocks the value of each 79p single downloaded. As such, downloading two tracks from an album at 79p each would then reduce the cost of the rest of the album by £1.58, to £6.41.
Single values can be claimed against the price of an album up to 180 days after they were first purchased.
Sony BMG Music's Thomas Hesse welcomed the initiative, saying 'iTunes continues to revolutionise the digital music industry by offering music fans innovative ways to explore and enjoy new music. With Complete My Album, iTunes is giving music fans the best of both worlds-the ability to discover great new music by buying just the single and a credit toward the purchase of the complete album.'
iTunes Store accounts have been upgraded to include Complete My Album pages, which display the reduced price of all qualifying albums, personalised in accordance with each user's previous downloads.
