Design Museum names iPod a highlight of the last 25 years

The iPod has been named one of the landmarks of the last quarter century by the Design Museum in London.
The Thameside museum has chosen to include Apple's music player in a special exhibition that marks the institution's 25th anniversary. It opened in 1982 at the Boilerhouse in the basement of the Victoria and Albert Museum and moved to its current location, a warehouse in Shad Thames, after outgrowing its spot in the V&A within seven years.
Exhibits on show for its 25th anniversary celebration, which also include the Alessi whistling kettle, were chosen by a panel of 25 designers, each of which was asked to select just one item. Nominations came from fashion designer Paul Smith, architect Richard Rogers, and founder of the Boiler House, Terence Conran.
Entry to the exhibition, which is open now and runs until 22 June, costs adults £7, and students and concessions £4. It is free to the under 12s.
The Design Museum is online at designmuseum.org.
