Our Rating
While Google generally prefers never to address any direct questions about the systems that run the world's most powerful search engine, you need little other proof of the technology that backs it than the ever escalating storage count displayed on the Google Mail sign-up page.
Gdisk is a nifty little Mac-only application that allows you to use the large amount of e-mail storage that Google provides as file storage instead. It's a tiny little download (just shy of 1MB); once installed, enter your Google Mail login details, and you're away. Gdisk prompts you to create 'labels', which function as folders, and when you upload your files, it cleverly files them as draft messages in your account. As it's little more than a hack, Gdisk is a barebones app, with no support for uploading whole directories, or FTP access, but it doesn't appear to be in violation of the terms of Google Mail's service, and it's free and simple to use.
