Coke lines up two billion song iTunes giveaway

Apple and Coca-Cola have teamed up for what they describe as Europe's biggest music promotion ever - over two billion Tunes songs will be given away in 17 European countries, including the UK, this summer.
The free downloads will be featured in promotional packs of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero, plus a chance to win iPods and get tickets for some of the 100-plus Coke and iTunes sponsored summer concerts across Europe.
These concerts will feature big name acts playing alongside new artists from Coca-Cola's grassroots programme that allows undiscovered artists to upload their music on Coke's music website. All of the concerts will be recorded and made available as downloads and podcasts exclusively on iTunes.
'Coke+iTunes aims to reinvent the ways young people create, listen to, and experience music every day,' said Chris Burggraeve, group marketing director for the European Union Group. 'Thanks to Coke+iTunes, European youth will enjoy this Summer 2007 the biggest pan European music experience ever. And what better way to build bridges among European cultures than through music?'
The promotion will be launched at the Cannes Film Festival with a special live performance from Faithless, who have recorded an exclusive track for iTunes and collaborated with designers Paranoid on a limited-edition, aluminium Coke bottle.
Coca-Cola's partnership with Apple began last summer when the fizzy drink firm scrapped its own downloads service and began linking directly to the iTunes Store.
Apple had previously run a 100 million song promotion with Coke's arch rival, Pepsi.
