Sony Ericsson unveils 8GB Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a new Walkman mobile that packs as much storage as a top-of-the-range iPod nano.
The W960 is a UMTS phone with 8GB of on-board memory for storing photos, video or MP3 and AAC music files. The Walkman player software provides "finger touch" navigation on the 2.6in display that doubles as a viewfinder for the 3.2-megapixel camera and as a widescreen video viewer.
The 3G phone provides both Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi connectivity for touch controlled Web browsing - and music buying - whenever the handset is in range of a hotspot.
But it is the music capabilities that Sony Ericsson believes make this phone stand out.
Like earlier Walkmans, the W960 incorporates TrackID music recognition software that lets you record a clip of a song on your phone and find out instantly the name of the artist, track and album. But it also includes new software from Gracenote that provides detailed information about the song identified, as well as new ways to search by artist, title, album or lyrics.
Nicklas Sivander, product manager for the W960 Walkman phone, Sony Ericsson, said that you couldn't ask for a better mix of media player and mobile phone.
"The days of taking an MP3 player, a camera and a phone with you when you leave the house are definitely over," he said
The Sony Ericsson W960 Walkman phone is UMTS 2100-GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and will be available in Vinyl Black from Q4 2007. A companion model, the W910, will be available at the same time.
