1&1 introduces Dual Hosting web hosting packages
Posted on 5 May 2011 at 15:28
In this always-on world, no company can afford for its homepage to be unavailable. To this end, 1&1 has launched its new Dual Hosting range of packages that aims to make downtime a thing of the past.
Dual Hosting simply means that your website is stored in two geographically separate data centres, adding location redundancy to the already long list of security measures. We've seen these first-hand when we visited 1&1's huge Baden-Airpark data centre in Germany in 2010.
1&1 is the first big hosting provider to make the double security of geo-redundant servers available on budget hosting packages. This redundancy across locations guarantees maximum availability 365 days a year and has - until now - been the preserve of large corporations.
All your data is mirrored across two of 1&1's sites almost in real-time. If any unexpected problems occur at one of the locations, such as an electricity or server blackout, your site is automatically taken over by the other data centre.
"The 1&1 Dual Hosting concept means a new dimension of resilience as every online presence exists in two different high performance data centres at the same time", says Oliver Mauss, 1&1's CEO. "Freelancers, professionals and small to medium-sized businesses thus now benefit from a safeguard that until now only large organisations could afford".
The new Dual Hosting packages are available in both Linux and Windows configurations, with flexible contracts of 3, 12 or 24 months. 1&1 Dual Basic starts from only £2.39 per month and provides 5GB of web space, 1&1 Online Office, 1,000 email accounts and one MySQL database.
The Dual Perfect package, from £4.80 per month comes with 10GB of web space, a free .uk domain for the life of the package, 3,000 email accounts and 10 MySQL databases. You can compare all the packages on 1&1's website.
