APC Back-UPS ES 400VA review
Verdict:
A straightforward UPS if you don't need automatic safe shutdown. It's cheap and has standard sockets, but Trust's 600VA is even cheaper and lasts longer.

Our Rating
This model looks similar to APC's Back-UPS ES 700VA, but has a much lower power rating and fewer features. Like the ES 700VA, it's designed for home use, and its 400VA and 240W rating is enough to power a low-end PC.
In common with its higher-rated sibling, the ES 400VA has four battery backup sockets and four surge protection sockets. The sockets are all standard UK 3-pin, so you can plug in any electronic device. You can also protect against phone line and network surges with the RJ-11 phone line and RJ-45 Ethernet cable sockets. However, the ES 400VA has no USB PC connection, so it can't control your PC in the event of a power cut.
The ES 400VA kept our test PC going for the shortest time in the group: just 12 minutes at idle, and five minutes and nine seconds during the stress test.
