Notebook hard disks grow

Western Digital has launched a new notebook hard disk capable of storing 320GB data. The company claims that its 2.5in serial ATA WD Scorpio model is the first disk of its capacity and physical size that is available to customers.

Toshiba announced a 320GB 2.5in hard disk back in August, although this has yet to become generally available. Both the Western Digital and Toshiba disks spin at a rate of 5,400rpm.

Until the new Scorpio's arrival, notebook PCs had to use a pair of 160GB disks to be able to store comparable amounts of data.
