Flickr picture editing is a Picnik
Posted on 5 Dec 2007 at 12:24
Photo sharing website Flickr has introduced a set of online image editing tools.
Using tools developed by Picnik, Flickr has added an Edit Photo button that appears above each image in a user's collection. Click this and the edit screen appears, with a set of tools for cropping, rotating and resizing images; adjusting the exposure, brightness, contrast, colours, highlights and shadows; and removing red-eye.
Click the Create tab and you can apply effects such as Sepia tints, monochrome and add text, clipart and borders.
An annual fee of $24.95 to Picnik Premium adds an expanding set of extra editing and retouching tools, effects, more fonts for text and multiple undos.
Flickr's George Oates explained that partnering with Picnik was an obvious choice.
"Picnik has been providing online photo editing for a while now," he explained. "As soon as we saw it, we knew that there was huge potential for us to join together. Rather than Flickr diverting from our speciality to enter a realm we had no (particular) expertise in, the thought of a partnership seemed much more sensible."
