Google wraps apps for iPhone

Google has grouped several of its web searches and applications into a single interface for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The typically minimal page provides access to Google search, News, Gmail and iGoogle; clicking on the "More..." button loads a secong page listing a dozen options including Reader, Blogger, Photos, Docs and Calendar.

Google said the new service was made possible by the iPhone's and iPod touch's fully featured Safari browser.

"To accomplish this, Google is taking advantage of browser technologies (like AJAX) that made Gmail and Google Maps possible on the desktop," Google explains. "In supporting these advances in web technology, the iPhone's Safari browser not only delivers an excellent mobile Internet experience; it enabled our product and engineering teams to create an optimal Google experience on a mobile device."

Google services are also available on the iPhone via the standalone Maps and and YouTube applications. YouTube also appears on the iPod touch.

To Google on the iPhone point Safari at google.com/m.
