Sleek Audio launches world's first customisable earphones
Posted on 9 Jan 2008 at 21:20
Sleek Audio has launched the world's first customisable earphones, the SA6. They ship with three interchangeable bass ports and three interchangeable treble tips, so you can customise their sound to your liking.
"We call the process, finding your audio fingerprint," said Jason Krywko, COO of Sleek Audio.
The earphones come with three tips, to suit different ear sizes. With the correct tip, a seal is made, blocking external noise so that you can listen to music at lower volumes. There's also an option to have custom-made ear tips by sending the company a mould of your ears taken by an audiologist.
The SA6 earphones are also the first we've seen to have a detachable cable. Replacement cables cost $25 (approximately, £13), so you don't have to buy a new set of earphones in the event the wire gets damaged. The detachable cable connector also has the advantage that the wire is free to move 360-degrees, so you can wear it over- or under-ear. Sleek Audio is also working on a wireless transmitter, which will simply plug into your existing headphones without having to buy a new set.
Computer Shopper has listened to a pair at CES 2008 in Las Vegas, and we were impressed by the sound - look out for our full review soon. The SA6 earphones are available now from Sleek Audio's website and cost $250 (approximately £125) for the standard set, and $279 (approximately £140) for the custom-fit set.
