BBC on iTunes

BBC programmes are now available to buy through iTunes.
Only 10 series will be available initially, The most recent series of Robin Hood, Life On Mars, The Catherine Tate Show, Little Britain and Spooks can be purchased for £1.89 per episodem while the latest episodes of Ashes to Ashes, Torchwood and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps will be available for for purchase and download eight days after they are screened on TV.
Neither the BBC nor Apple commented on the deal.
The BBC is the first UK broadcaster to appear on iTunes, which until now has offered a small selection of programming from US channels. ITV and Channel 4 will now be under pressure to follow suit. The three broadcasters set up the Kangaroo project last year to examine ways in which they can exploit the digital market, but it seems that the BBC has unilaterally decided not to wait for the outcome of those discussions before opting to put its programmes on the world's most popular digital content store.
