Apple heads for Covent Garden
Posted on 13 Aug 2008 at 08:12
Apple has filed a planning application for a second central London store, located in Covent Garden.
The store would be located on the Piazza and would occupy two floors connected by a spiral glass staircase. A third floor will provide office space for its European retail HQ.
The planning application allows for a complete revamp of the listed building’s interior, including a courtyard which will be covered with a glass roof and used for presentations, music performances and other events.
“The design approach reflects the importance given to improving the historic character of the building,” the application notes. “The proposals are intended to provide a sensitive response in order to preserve and enhance the quality of the historic fabric of the building while ensuring the building’s viable future through the creation of a unit that can meet the demands of a modern retailer and officer occupier.”
