Our Rating
The U-AX is an underwater housing that accommodates a small SLR camera with a flashgun.
Unfortunately, the design doesn't exactly inspire confidence, with a valve to adjust the amount of air in, and thus buoyancy of, the housing that would look more at home on a water wing. The double-laminated PVC seems tough, though. The bar to lock the camera in is well designed, and the housing proved both air- and watertight in our tests.
The downside of a generic housing such as this is that the controls must be prodded through the PVC. This is fine for most buttons, but small dials are impossible to adjust. The zoom ring is reasonably accessible, though, and a finger hole provides access to the shutter release. You'll need an SLR that supports Live View, as there's little hope of using the viewfinder through goggles or a mask.
This is an effective housing, but its generic nature makes it a bit fiddly to use.
