Our Rating
AlphaCool's external LCD screen is twice the height of every other 5½in drive bay device in this test, occupying two bays.
A huge, 240x128 screen dominates the frame, making good use of the space. It's driven by a USB connection, although the supplied cable is wired to connect only to an external USB port, not a motherboard header, which isn't quite as neat.
The application that controls the display is reasonably easy to use. As with the other displays here, it can show information about your PC - temperatures, the load of each processor core - along with other items such as RSS feeds and email messages. There's also a strong slant towards applications for gamers and performance fiends, including FRAPS, a tool that measures frame rates in games, and Motherboard Monitor 5. You can also create custom 'pages' to display on the screen.
The LCD-Display looks great and is really easy to use, but it's also quite expensive.
