Bluetooth 10 times faster in 2009

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has confirmed that it will release two new versions of the short-range wireless technology next year.
Bluetooth 10x will be able to piggyback Wi-Fi connections to increase data transfer speeds to as much as 30Mb/sec. That is 10 times faster than the current version.
“What we’re doing is taking classic Bluetooth connections—using Bluetooth protocols, profiles, security and other architectural elements—and allowing it to jump on top of the already present 802.11 radio, when necessary, to send bulky entertainment data faster,” said Michael Foley, executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
The second version, Bluetooth 100x will run up to 300Mb/sec, though only on devices that support ultrawideband (UWB) connections.
