Square Group grabs Gordon Harwood

Square Group has taken over the operation of fellow Apple reseller Gordon Harwood Computers (GHC).
GHC has been selling Macs, peripherals and software for 26 years and Square will take over both its ecommerce business and its two retail stores, one in Alfreton and another in Derby city centre. Square already has its own stores in London and High Wycombe.
GHC managing director Giles Harwood said that if the business was to continue then it would need to be part of a larger company.
“After having founded GHC in 1982 I am delighted that one of the most forward thinking and resourceful independent companies in the Mac market has, in these particularly difficult economic times, recognised the future growth potential of GHC, and will be building on the foundations we first laid all those years ago.”
Square Group said that it is planning fresh investment, with an particular eye on the growing hotel room market.
“GHC has a long and established reputation in the Midlands. For some time now we have been actively progressing opportunities to open a service operation to cover both this area and Northern England, primarily to support our growing Apple based hotel in room entertainment solution. Clearly hotels need 24/7/365 support which, with the addition of the engineering team from GHC, we will now be able to provide this across the whole region,” said managing director Darren King.
