Webmail reaches stage two

Apple has released the secnd beta version of the Web interface for its Mac.com email service, with better performance and improved features.

Mac.com provides free email accounts exclusively for Mac users and messages can be read either using a POP-based email client, such as Mail or Outlook Express, or using the recently unveiled Webmail interface. Following user feedback from the first beta, Apple has made a number of changes to Webmail and incorporated them in the second.

The changes are grouped into three areas: smarter navigation, better folder and message management and increased ease of use.

Navigation enhancements include consistent positioning of frequently-used navigation items, better visibility of certain features and a list of frequently-used actions at the bottom of most pages.

Folder and message management now includes one-click emptying of the Deleted Messages folder, better attachment handling and downloading, the ability to cancel the composing of a message and the saving of incomplete messages if interrupted.

Ease of use has been enhanced with an improved Time Zone feature and clearer indication of which mail folder is being browsed.

Details of the Webmail beta enhancements are available from Apple. You can sign up for a Mac.com email address by creating an iTools account.
