Philips launches budget Blu-ray player
Posted on 31 Jul 2009 at 15:47
Philips has launched its cheapest Blu-ray player yet, retailing at £149.99 on www.amazon.co.uk.
The new BDP3000 isn't the cheapest player you can buy ??" Samsung's BD-P1600 costs a few pounds less, while the older BD-P1500 can be picked up from Amazon for just £128. However, it's good to see DivX Ultra support, and you can also listen to MP3s and view JPEGs.
As with many budget Blu-ray players, there are no analog surround-sound outputs, which means you'll need a modern AV receiver with an HDMI input if you want to gain the benefit of Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound.
The BDP3000 is a slim, curvy player and should look good beneath your HD TV. It supports Philips' EasyLink which allows multiple devices supporting the standard to be controlled (over HDMI) from one remote control.
