Cinemin Swivel: world's first swivelling pocketable projector
Posted on 3 Aug 2009 at 10:35
So-called pico projectors have become popular this year, and US firm WowWee Technologies is the latest to launch a pocket projector in the UK.
The oddly named Cinemin Swivel, which measures 120mm x 52mm x 22mm and weighs 170g, is similar to other pico projectors we've seen, except that it has a hinge that allows its lens to swivel through 90 degrees. According to WowWee, this eliminates the need to prop the projector up or use a tripod. Plus, it means you can project onto the ceiling, again with no other equipment.
Cables will be included for connecting an iPhone or iPod Touch, as well as a standard composite video cable for other devices. A built-in speaker will allow you to hear movie soundtracks, although this is likely to be too quiet for group viewing.
The Swivel's battery should last long enough to watch a full movie, with the specifications on WowWee's website claiming 135 minutes between charges.
As with other pico projectors, the Cinemin uses a DLP chip rather than LCD, and has a resolution of 480x320 - matching the iPhone's screen. The LED light source is rated at 8 ANSI lumens, which means you'll only be able to use the projector in the dark. Expect to get a maximum image size of around 60in at 1.5m away.
You can pre-order a Cinemin Swivel here for 350 Euros, but units won't ship until October.
