Nasa hacker's extradition put on hold
Posted on 19 Oct 2009 at 14:29
Gary McKinnon, the British hacker accused of hacking into US military and Nasa computers, has had his extradition to America put on hold.
According to the BBC, the Home Office has agreed to consider new psychiatric evidence in the case, removing, for now, the threat of extradition.
McKinnon has Asperger's syndrome, a condition that could lead to a higher risk of suicide should he be tried and imprisoned in the US.
His lawyer is hoping that the Home Office will show compassion in this case and keep McKinnon in the UK, where he could still be tried for the crimes he's accused of.
McKinnon has admitted breaking into US computers, but has said that he was looking for evidence of UFOs. The US Government has insisted that this is not true and claims that passwords were stolen and files deleted.
