Save money with Belkin's new surge protector with remote switch

Belkin has launched a new eight-socket multiplug called the Conserve Surge. As well as protecting your equipment from power surges, it also makes it easy to eliminate the energy used by devices in standby mode.

According to Belkin, standby power can account for as much as 20 per cent of your home's annual energy usage. With an increasing number of electronic appliances left switched on all the time, the combined effect of these unnoticed power wasters can add up fast.

The Conserve Surge has eight power sockets, six for appliances that can be completely powered down, and two for devices that need to remain on standby, such as a PVR which may be set to record programmes overnight.

The really clever part is the wireless remote control switch allows you to switch the six devices on or off from anywhere in your home (it has a 20m range). The switch can also be wall mounted so you can easily switch the power off as you leave the house or before you go to bed. The remote control switch can control up to eight Conserve Surge Protectors, providing even greater energy and cost savings.

You can buy one from Oyyy.co.uk for £28.
