Google buys Picnik
Posted on 2 Mar 2010 at 12:57
Google has extended its domination of the known internet with the purchase of online photo editing tool Picnik from Bitnik Inc.
Picnic also provides the integrated editing features of photo sharing and printing sites including Flickr and Photobox.
In a blog post Google Product Management Director Brian Axe writes that "we'd like to continue supporting all existing Picnik partners so that users will continue to be able to add their photos from other photo sharing sites, make edits in the cloud and then save and share to all relevant networks." This should provide some reassurance to users of Flickr and other sites that use Picnik to provide photo editing capabilities.
The acquisition of Picnik adds to Google's exiting photo tools, primarily the Picasa offline web albums and desktop photo management tools.
