Google lets you edit places using Street View images
Posted on 9 Mar 2010 at 16:53
If you find that a business or place is in the wrong place in Google Maps, a new feature will let you move it using Street View images as a point of reference.
Using the new feature, you simply select the marker, click the Edit link and then click Move marker. Google Maps then changes to a split-screen mode: the top shows the Street View, the bottom shows the map. Using a combination of the two, a marker can be placed more accurately.
The system should help improve Google Maps' accuracy and make it easier to find a business or location. It will also be really useful for Google Maps Navigation on Android phones (US only for the time-being), which use a Street View image to display the final destination.
Currently, the Street View images function only seems to work on US markers and we couldn't get it to work on any of the UK ones that we tried. It shouldn't be long until the service is rolled out across all of Google's maps.
