Virgin Media to demo 200Mbps broadband this weekend

Virgin Media has announced that it will demonstrate its forthcoming 200Mbps broadband service at this year’s Ideal Home Show 2010 at Earl's Court this weekend.
The broadband provider says that it has been trialling its 200Mb service in Kent since last summer and has just started additional trials in Coventry.
"The service is unlike anything the public has seen before, and Virgin Media is proud to be showcasing it at this year’s Ideal Home Show to give Brits a taste of what’s to come," said a statement by the ISP.
Virgin says that the service will allow its customers to download an entire music album in three seconds, an hour long TV show in 16 seconds and an HD movie in under four minutes. That's obviously a best case scenario and achieving such speed is going to depend on the service you're using and how congested it is.
Ashley Stockwell, executive director, brand and marketing at Virgin Media said, “Ultrafast broadband like our 200Mbps service, will enable a whole household to enjoy cutting edge entertainment, not just via computers, but through an array of gadgets all over the home. By pushing the boundaries of broadband in the UK we hope to drive a change in the way Brits enjoy and experience digital entertainment and exciting new services.”
In addition to demoing its 200Mbps broadband service, Virgin Media will also show off a wide range of 3D TV content to give a preview of what's coming to Virgin's TV service soon. Virgin has teamed up with Sony for the demo, who has provided its latest Bravia HX903 series 3D TVs to showcase the new content.
Finally, Virgin Media added that it will be giving a glimpse far into the future of the living room, including its next generation TV service using TiVo, as well as the option to move content from TV screens, to computer screens and even to mobile phones.
