GestureTek unveils multi-touch GestTable

While 3D appears to be the latest key selling point in high-definition displays, there are at least some companies who think that touch is the future - including GestureTek, which is set to launch a 42in high-definition table.
Designed to be fully compatible with Microsoft's Surface technology - which allows neat multi-touch aware interaction with a built-in computer - the GestTable marries a 42in full-HD 1080p panel with a series of cameras that capture your movements at 100 frames per second, allowing - the company claims - for an "ultra-speedy response time" to your touch-based interactions.
While the device is compatible with Windows 7's human interface device standard - which turns it into a basic mouse - it's when the GestTable is married with Microsoft's Surface Toolkit that things get particularly interesting. Allowing developers to easily integrate multi-touch technology into their apps, Surface promises to make it easy for companies to bring innovative new control methods to devices such as these.
The company will have to hurry its product to launch if it wants to beat the competition to the punch, however: Sony's atracTable - which, let's face it, has a better name - is due to drop this month, albeit in a smaller 35in format.
While GestureTek hasn't revealed pricing information for the GestTable yet - nor for its extra-large, 70in wall-mounted version - expect it to be priced more for the corporate sector than brightening up your living room.
