ICQ users see the Lite
Posted on 30 Sep 2002 at 15:51
Although ICQ Lite only weighs in at 1.7Mbytes compared with the 3.88Mbytes of its big brother ICQ 2002a, it packs in all the features most often used in an IM program.
The new version offers the most commonly used functionality such as messaging, file transfer, SMS and find friends as well as a new interface, while missing out on some of the more advanced functions such as email integration and customising messages. Early postings on the ICQ message board among the user community are generally favourable, especially over the new interface.
ICQ was one of the earliest IM programs developing a devoted following among users of chat programs before being bought up by AOL. In overall numbers of registered users it has now been taken over by AOL's own Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger although the program still claims to have 135 million registered users.
You can download ICQ Lite from the ICQ web site.
