Enhance your life with a PC
Posted on 17 Oct 2002 at 17:44
From cradle to grave, your PC can help you achieve anything you want from life. It's all thanks to the newly-published Collected Thoughts of Mankind, otherwise known as the Web. We see what it has to offer to help us through those pivotal moments in life.
Do you feel like life is leaving you behind? Are your friends happier, richer, healthier and having a better time than you? Well, don't get mad. Get onto the Net.
In this feature, we'll look at how, by using the Internet with skill and finesse, you'll be able to improve everything from your bank balance to your love life. Indeed, we'll see that some clever surfing can benefit anyone, no matter their age or situation. To prove the point, we'll show how the Internet can be a great friend during key phases of life such as going to university, falling in love and buying a house.
This might sound rather fanciful - but it's all possible. The Internet is, after all, filled with handy advice and comparison sites aimed at helping us find the right credit card or mortgage. Web-based estate agents take the daunting donkey work out of finding a house. Trot off to the correct site and you'll find the right degree course. Within a few keystrokes, you can find a cheaper car - or even the love of your life.
There is a problem, though. The Internet is so big it's easy to become overloaded with useless information. By thinking around your subject, you can pinpoint the useful stuff much more quickly. As this feature progresses, you'll see that a search using what at first seems an odd jumble of words may actually produce the best results. To help you get the idea, we've put a set of the example search words at the top of each section.
But when you've tracked down the info you're after, how can you tell if it's reliable? We'll teach you how to tell the opinions of experts from those of frauds or overly imaginative schoolboys. So, no matter whether you're a wide-eyed and largely legless student or a mature silver haired surfer, we'll see how the Internet can make your world a better place.
