Buffalo upgrades wireless line-up
Posted on 13 Jun 2003 at 16:21
Buffalo Technology has announced that it will be upgrading its AirStation range of 802.11g wireless products in line with the recently ratified standard.
Buffalo will release a software update within a week for its 802.11g range comprising an access point, broadband router and PC and PCI card adapters. As well as bringing the products into line with the 802.11g standard, the update will add several other features to improve speed and security.
Xpress technology, otherwise known as Frame Bursting, will increase throughput speeds with more efficient timing of the transmission of data packets. 'Rather than causing a delay by transmitting individual data packets,' says Buffalo, 'multiple packets are sent at once to reduce latency.' Frame Bursting is also designed to improve performance on mixed networks of 802.11g and 802.11b clients.
Also included will be new HotSpot features, adding increased privacy and security including Wi-Fi Protected Access. HotSpot also enables control over network signal strength so the total coverage area can be controlled.
