AirPort update for WiFi compliance
Posted on 20 Jun 2003 at 12:49
Apple has released updates for both its AirPort software and its AirPort Extreme base station firmware to ensure that its wireless networking products are compatible with the recently ratified 802.11g standard.
Although Apple introduced faster, 802.11g wireless networking back in January, the standard only received final approval from the IEEE this month. These updates ensure that Apple's AirPort Extreme products meet the standard.
The AirPort Extreme Base Station Firmware 5.1 update adds: base station Interference Robustness, providing improved performance when 2.4GHz devices like cordless phones and wireless video distribution system cause significant interference with the AirPort network; automatic channel selection allowing the base station to find the most appropriate channel to use whenever it is restarted; simpler Wireless Distribution System (WDS) set-up experience in AirPort Admin Utility; the ability to set the DHCP range on the base station when NAT is on; and performance improvements between wired and wireless clients.
AirPort Software 3.1 ensures compliance with the final IEEE 802.11g specification and adds client-side Interference Robustness.
