iTrip illegal in the UK

The Griffin iTrip, a device that allows you to transmit music from an iPod to an FM radio, is illegal in the UK, according to UK dealer AMMicro.
In a brief statement on its website, the company says that, 'Use of the iTrip in the UK is prohibited under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949.'
The act forbids the installation or use of radio equipment without a licence, with some exceptions. The FM spectrum is reserved exclusively for licensed operators and therefore, says AMMicro, 'Use of the iTrip in the UK...constitutes an offence and can lead to prosecution of the user, the dealer and the seizure of all iTrips in the UK.'
Consequently AMMicro will no longer be selling or distributing the iTrip - which gained 4.5 mice in a recent MacUser review - in the UK.
iTrip broadcasts music from an iPod so that it can be played back through an FM radio or stereo system. The device is particularly useful for playing iPod content in a car.
