Dell updates Inspiron with fastest Centrino processor

Dell's new notebook, the Inspiron 8600, features a choice of Intel's Pentium M processors from the 1.3GHz to the latest 1.7GHz versions.
For full Centrino certification, the machine has integrated 802.11b support for wireless networking. Non-Centrino 802.11a/b/g communication options are also available.
Described by Dell as a 'dream machine for multimedia enthusiasts', the 15.4-in display offers WXGA (1280X800), WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or WUXGA (1920x1200) resolutions, and there is a choice for graphics of Nvidia GeForce FX Go5650 (128MB), Nvidia GeForce 4 4200 Go (64MB) or ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 (32MB).
New aspects to the user interface include audio volume up/down/mute buttons and back lit LEDs for number lock, scroll lock, caps lock and Bluetooth activity.
Other aspects of the spec include 256MB of DDR RAM (expandable to 2GB), 30GB, 40GB, 60GB or 80GB hard drives, 56K V.92 modem and 10/100 Ethernet support. The choice of modular optical drives is DVD, CD-RW/DVD or DVD+RW/+R. In terms of ports, there are two USB, one S-Video Out, one IEEE 1394, a serial and a parallel port.
With dimensions of 35.9 cm (width) x 27.4 cm (depth) x 3.8 cm (height), its weight (with travel module and 72-WHr battery) is 3.13 kg.
Pricing for the Inspiron 8600 starts at £1,249 (including VAT and delivery).
