TechTool Pro aims to protect and cure
Posted on 26 Nov 2003 at 12:32
Micromat has released TechTool Pro 4, a collection of tools designed both to prevent your Mac failing and to fix it if it does.
This new version includes two new core features: support for SMART testing and eDrive recovery.
SMART (Self Monitoring Analysis And Reporting Technology) is an industry standard compatible with most modern hard drives and employs predictive diagnostics and analysis to help foresee a drive failure before it happens. TechTool Pro's SmarTest feature lets you to automatically monitor SMART feedback and warns of any imminent threat to your data.
eDrive is an invisible partition, created without having to reformat your hard drive, on which you can install an emergency system and recovery tools. If you have trouble with your main drive, you restart your computer holding down the E key and the system will start from the eDrive, removing the need for a bootable CD or additional hard drive.
Other new features include a new disk optimisation (defragging) tool, while existing tools have been further optimised for OS X.
Further information and full and upgrade pricing are available from www.micromat.com; TechTool Pro is distributed in the UK by Softline.
