Broadband users double as Net appeal grows
Posted on 7 Sep 2004 at 16:44
New research from NOPWorld analysts reveals that the number of UK broadband users has doubled in the past year.
It shows a year on year increase of 105 per cent for broadband users, with many of us confident enough to shop around to get the best deals. Twelve per cent say they have changed ISP in the last six months and 14 per cent expecting to do so in the next six.
The findings also show that broadband users are finding the Internet more compelling than other entertainment media.
'The online and offline behaviour of broadband users is significantly different from the general population. We are seeing a knock-on impact through many off-line activities for broadband users, such as a decrease in TV viewing,' said Michael Beech, at NOP World.
The gender gap is also closing, with an increase in women broadband users - creating a more balanced user base of 48 per cent female compared with 46 per cent six months ago.
Currently 58 per cent of the UK population is Net-connected - about 26.8 million people.
