Microsoft readies MSN Messenger 7
Posted on 4 Oct 2004 at 11:08
A beta version of MSN Messenger 7.0 is reported to be released for private testing this week. Amongst the new features to be tried out across six countries are ones specifically targeted at the 13-24 year old age group.
The 'net generation' is a particularly target for the Microsoft consumer group. The latest version of MSN Messenger will be trialling things like IM communications to small groups as well as the ability to share music, photos and animations. The product is also set to feature 'winks and nudges' which can be used to get the attention of another IM user. The company is also preparing additional avatars and emoticons to the already extensive range available, as well as the possiblility of 'premium', ie. paid for wallpapers.
Another area of MSN focus is search. The new MSN client will feature a search bar and users will be able to search an IM chat by right-clicking a word.
The preliminary beta programme will be using testers from the US, UK, France, Spain, Korea and Netherlands
