Apple offers Chinese tunes to the rest of us
Posted on 7 Feb 2005 at 14:46
Apple is to expand the scope of its iTunes service with the addition of around 1,000 Chinese pop songs to the database. The songs are from well known - at least to Chinese listeners - such musicians as Kelly Chen, Hacken Lee and Alan Tam and Jacky Cheung.
The tracks are culled from the catalogue of Universal Music, the world's biggest music company, and will be available in 15 countries and aimed squarely at the Chinese ex-pat community around the world.
The move is being made to co-incide with the Chinese New Year - the year of the Rooster which starts tomorrow. Apple refused to confirm whether the database of songs will contain versions of Little Red Rooster and Do The Funky Chicken.
