UK games chart: Sega Sonic magic does the trick

The long post-Christmas freeze is over and it is all change in this week's ELSPA UK games chart. EA's Need For Speed: Underground 2 has finally been deposed by Sega's Sonic Mega Collection Plus, which shoots straight in at number one.

Sega's burst of nostalgia, for PS2 and Xbox owners, includes every Sonic title released including Sonic The Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast. It is priced at £29.99.

Other new entries include EA's all-format UEFA Champions League 2004-2005 (£29.99 for the PC, £37.99 for all other formats), Capcom's Shadow of Rome, for the PS2 (£34.99), and Microsoft's Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf, for the Xbox (£37.99). These come in at numbers eight, nine and ten, respectively.

There's also another new entry at 13: THQ's The Spongebob Squarepants Movie is an all-format movie spin-off, costing £29.99, except for the £24.999 GameBoy Advance version.

Getting format specific, Football Manager 2005 remains the best selling PC game for a third week, and over on the PS2, Grand Theft Auto remains number one. For the Xbox, however, Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf sits newly atop the pile.
