Via builds a chipset for the Turion
Posted on 25 Feb 2005 at 15:01
Chip developer, Via Technologies, has announced the availability of the VIA K8N800A chipset for the new AMD Turion 64-bit processor for notebooks.
Via says that the K8N800A is low-power core-logic chipset with an S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro integrated graphics processor (IGP) incorporated with the northbridge. The IGP offers dual-pipeline graphics performance via a 128-bit 2D/3D engine and shared DDR memory support.
The Chromotion CE Video Display Engine includes hardware-based MPEG-2 decoding acceleration for digital video playback. Support for an external AGP8x port allows optional graphics processor upgrades on supporting notebooks.
The chipset has been optimised for AMD's upcoming Turion 64 family of processors, as well as the complete range of Mobile AMD Athlon 64 and Mobile AMD Sempron processors.
The VIA K8N800A chipset is available now.
