Apple board member and former US vice president Al Gore has launched his cable TV channel in the US inspired by the iPod phenomenon.

Current TV will show short, fast-paced programs known as 'pods' with a target audience of Internet savvy 18-34 year-olds. The pods will be both professionally produced and submitted by viewers, running from a few seconds to up to 15 minutes.

The channel will also have half-hourly news programmes to highlight current trends based on Google searches.
