Hungry Minds INC Ajax for Dummies review
Ajax is a new web technology that promises to make websites faster by not reloading an entire page when just a bit needs modifying.
At the moment the process is complicated, requiring you to be an expert at CSS, JavaScript and DHML. After you download a page, the parts that need updating thereafter are refreshed using asynchronous XML downloads.
Author Steven Holzner does his best to explain this messy and complicated, but exciting, technology. He describes JavaScript and all the related technologies in painfully slow detail. This makes sense, but there are lots of small errors that will cause the complete beginner problems. If you can cope with the bugs, perhaps by downloading the examples, then this is a surprisingly good book. And if a second edition can get rid of the silly errors then it will be a fine introduction to Ajax.
