Kaspersky Lab Internet Security 6.0 review
Kaspersky has stopped selling its standalone Anti-Hacker firewall, given the software a facelift and integrated it into a single interface with its award-winning anti-virus software.
The firewall assumed the local network was friendly and gave access to the website immediately. We had to make a small change to deflect other local network users. In stealth mode our port scans were useless, and the firewall didn't sound any alerts. Turning stealth mode off caused the firewall to log the scans. Stealth mode is off by default and IIS's ports were shown as open in our port scan, even though they were not. The same thing happens with Steganos's firewall. It's not ideal, but it's not the end of the world, either.
Setting up firewall rules was easy. Managing the application control system was straightforward, too. Once the website was locked down we ran our web scanner, probing for vulnerabilities. The firewall's IDS picked up some of our attacks.
Automatic blocking is available, and you can set how many minutes a system is blocked for. We couldn't find a way to unblock a computer on the internet manually.
This security suite combines an above-average firewall with an excellent anti-virus program. Only the price, which is the highest of any of the programs tested here, stops this bundle winning an award. It costs a lot to renew, too. We'd be tempted to buy it anyway, but bargain-hunters should look elsewhere.
