Real adds in Google, Firefox to install options
Posted on 3 Aug 2006 at 11:49
RealNetworks has signed a multi-year agreement with Google and Mozilla under which it will distribute the Firefox Web browser and Google Toolbar with the two million downloads per day of Real Player.
When users install RealPlayer, they will be given the option also to install Firefox or the Google Toolbar - a Windows-only addition Web browser that provides search and security tools as well as autofilling of forms and a spelling checker.
Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO of Real said that the company shares a passion for innovation with Google.
'The Google Toolbar has been a welcome addition to Real customers because Google simplifies and enhances how they interact with the Web,' he said. 'We think our customers will feel the same way about the Firefox Web browser"
Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, agreed.
'Real has been one of Google's most important distribution partners for the past two years, and we are delighted to broaden and deepen that relationship,' he said. 'Google and Real will continue to work together in innovative ways to further improve the Web experience.'
The deal complements Google's efforts in the area in the form of Google Pack, which alongside Google, Real and Firefox software includes Adobe Reader 7, Ad-Aware SE Personal, GalleryPlayer HD Images, Norton AntiVirus 2005 Special Edition and Trillian.
