Prentice Hall Visual Basic 2005 How to Program review

Verdict:

Review Date: 23 Oct 2006

Our Rating 4 stars out of 5

This book is printed in full colour so you get colour-coded listings exactly as they appear in Visual Studio.

The screen dumps and programming keywords embedded in the text are similarly colour coded. This makes the book look messy and harder to follow, but you have to admire the amount of effort demonstrated by the authors.

The book covers every topic exhaustively without regard to the space it takes up. For example, complete tables of keywords and parameters accompany the description of each class or component - in most cases, it's easier to look this information up in the online help. Similarly, the examples are large and presented as long listings.

If you have the patience and can cope with the dry, academic style, you might like this book - but we'd rather read something less laborious.
