Hit parade for viral videos
Posted on 24 Nov 2006 at 08:46
The Guardian has begun to publish a weekly chart of the most talked-about Internet videos.
The top 20 viral video chart will be compiled by Unruly Media. It will track the most referred to videos on sites such as YouTube, MySpace and Google video and by counting the number of times that clips are mentioned on two million blogs.
'Bloggers like to see themselves as crusaders for truth - citizen journalists armed with their small swords of truth,' said Scott Button, Unruly Media's managing director. 'They use video to start a conversation about what is going on around the world.'
The first MediaGuardian viral video top 20 features Seinfeld star Michael Richards' 'astonishing rant' in a comedy club and footage of a UCLA student being tazered by the police, although a MySpace clip of Family Guy's Stevie and Brian tops the inaugural chart.
